At the end of last year, the Council of Ministers, on a proposal from the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, approved thirteen ambassadorial appointments. According to this decision, our current ambassador, Mr. Jan Versteeg, will be appointed as Dutch ambassador to France, Monaco, and Andorra from next summer.
Shortly after taking office in Spain, Jan Versteeg was confronted with the corona crisis. An unprecedented situation that required creative solutions and a completely new way of communicating.
Many Dutch people in Spain suddenly had to deal with almost daily changing travel and accommodation problems. Jan was always available to help the compatriots with their questions, keeping us informed about the latest developments via Facebook and other media, sharing the most relevant information.
In many ways the 3 years that Jan Versteeg spent in Madrid can be described as short and powerful. Due to the circumstances, he was often unable to be physically present, but through social media he was more present than many of his predecessors. Now that Jan Versteeg’s term of office in Madrid will soon come to an end, the DBC would like to invite its members for a farewell lunch on Tuesday 7th June.
During this lunch, Jan will share a number of experiences from the past period with us and afterwards there is the opportunity to say goodbye to our ambassador in person.
Weather and conditions permitting, lunch will this time take place in the garden of the Haciendas Warehouse.
